Adamsville Career Center to host ResCare recruitment

ATLANTA -- The Adamsville Career Center of the Fulton County Office of Workforce Development will host a ResCare workforce service recruitment on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ResCare will be conducting interviews for the positions of in-home certified nursing assistant (CNA) and in-home personal care assistant (PCA).

The Adamsville Career Center is located at 3700 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (inside the Adamsville Regional Health Center).

The PCA positions as well as CNA positions require various levels of providing clients with personal care, and self-help assistance, which include hygiene and personal grooming, monitoring the condition of clients as well as administering CPR. Both positions will require moderate travel.

(WXIA) -- Georgia Department of Transportation crews will work in all the usual problem areas this weekend.

Drivers are asked to avoid Interstate 285 if possible, as construction projects will be performed on several stretches of that road.

As always, all weekend roadwork is weather permitting.

Scheduled projects include:

Cobb County
2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Paces Ferry Road and Cobb Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
3 westbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between New Northside Drive and I-75 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Bolton Road and South Cobb Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete rehabilitation.

Teen shot in the face inside Atlanta apartment

ATLANTA -- A 17 year old was conscious and alert after being shot in the face inside a southwest Atlanta apartment Friday morning.

The shooting happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. at the Allen Hills Apartments on Allen Temple Court.

A witness told police he and the victim were walking through the apartment complex when several people got out of a dark-colored car and opened fire on them. Atlanta Police Officer Kim Jones said it's more likely the shooting happened inside an apartment, and the suspects chased the victim into the parking lot.

Jones said the victim did not cooperate with investigators and refused to answer their questions about the shooting. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Callers to 911 reported hearing several shots fired. Police only found one bullet hole, which was in a car parked in the complex's parking lot.

Spelman College to host Dr. Richard Benson book signing and discussion

ATLANTA -- Richard Benson, Ph.D., author, advocate, and assistant professor of Education Studies at Spelman College, will share excerpts from his newly released book, Fighting For Our Place in the Sun: Malcolm X and the Radicalization of the Black Student Movement, 1960-1973, at a combined book signing and discussion on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

During the talk, Dr. Benson will discuss the book, which illuminates the untold tenets of Malcolm X's educational philosophy.

Free and open to the public, the discussion will be held at 6 p.m. in the NASA auditorium of the Albro-Falconer-Manley Science Center on Spelman's campus. For more information, call 404. 270-5309.

Chick-fil-A to host Daddy-Daughter Date Night

(WXIA) -- Chick-fil-A will bring back its popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night this weekend.

The fifth annual event will be Saturday, Feb. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at participating restaurants.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night encourages fathers and their little girls to spend time together. Every "couple" will receive take-home booklets featuring conversation starters and ideas for future outings.

Attendees will also be treated to tableside service, limousine and trolley rides, and other surprises.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night is free, except for the cost of food. Seating is available every hour; fathers and daughters are encouraged to call their local Chick-fil-A locations in advance to reserve a time.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The South Fulton Career Center of the Fulton County Office of Workforce Development will host a ResCare Workforce Service Recruitment on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ResCare will be conducting interviews for the positions of in-home certified nursing assistant (CNA) and in-home personal care assistant (PCA).

The PCA and CNA positions require various levels of personal care and self-help, which include hygiene and personal grooming, monitoring the condition of clients as well as the ability to administer CPR. Both positions will require moderate travel.

While performing the duties of the positions, employees are required to sit, stand and walk; to reach with hands and arms; and to talk and listen. Successful candidates will be required to have the skills to type on a computer keyboard. Training will be required after new employees are hired.
