Daisy Alliance Hosts a Screening of 'Countdown to Zero' at Morehouse College on Wed., October 6th

Atlanta, GA--  Daisy Alliance will host a screening of Countdown to Zero at Morehouse College on Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 6:30pm, followed by a discussion with Daisy Alliance Program Director Holly Lindamood and Morehouse College Department of Political Science Chair, Dr. Gregory Hall.  The event is co-sponsored by the Ploughshares Fund and Morehouse College Department of Political Science.

The film was produced by Lawrence Bender (Inglourious Basterds, An Inconvenient Truth) and directed by Lucy Walker (Devil’s Playground, Blindsight).  It spotlights the threats of nuclear terrorism and accidents, and makes a profound statement about how such a cataclysmic event would affect the world.

The Countdown to Zero screening is part of Daisy Alliance’s social action campaign to encourage U.S.

FLUX 2010 Art Event

FLUX is a one-night public art celebration presented by Flux Projects in the streets and empty spaces of the Castleberry Hill Art District. The event includes large and small-scale projections, performance, dance, music, light installations, and other forms of multi-media projects and public interactions.

This year’s event will takes place tonight, Friday, October 1, from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. The evening is free and open to the public. It will be a night of art & arm wrestling, performance, outdoor films, escaped zebras, parades, projections, and experimentation!

Mayor Kasim Reed Announced the Opening of 3 Cultural Centers and AfterSchool Programs

Atlanta, GA--  Mayor Kasim Reed recently kicked off the reopening of the city’s closed three cultural centers.  Joined by Atlanta City Council members, Department of Parks Commissioner George Dusenbury and others, Mayor Reed shared his vision in transforming all 33 of the city’s recreation centers into “Centers of Hope.”

TI Performs at 19th Annual "For Sisters Only" Event

Atlanta, GA--  This past weekend saw the 19th annual For Sisters Only event held at Georgia World Congress Center. Celebrity performances included Fantasia, Keri Hilson, Eric Benet, El Debarge, Jazmine Sullivan, and TI.

TI did not enter the media press room and did not answer questions posed to him regarding his latest parole violation. While on stage he offered his thanks to his fans that continue to support him and promises to win back the support from those that have left him.

Spelman College Museum of Fine Art Opens New Season with Exhibition of "Evenly Yoked"

Atlanta, GA-- Spelman College will host an opening reception and press preview for “Evenly Yoked: Bradley McCallum & Jacqueline Tarry,” an exhibition by Brooklyn-based artists Bradley McCallum and Jacqueline Tarry. The exhibition, comprised of 10 works by the husband and wife collaborative, examines race relations and social justice. Through their work they challenge audiences to reflect deeply on persistent subjects that have shaped the nation including shared heritage, the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement, and the spoken and unspoken politics of being an interracial couple.
The exhibition is presented by the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, which celebrates its 15th exhibition season in 2011-2012. The time of the event is 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept.
