ATLANTA -- Palm Sunday marked a new beginning for a historic Atlanta church.

Mt. Vernon Baptist Church was one of two churches purchased by the city and then demolished to make way for the new Atlanta Falcons stadium.

The old church stood at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. and Northside Drives for more than 50 years before being sold for $14 million.

Since moving, they had been in a temporary site on Cascade Road in southwest Atlanta. On Sunday, they held their final service there. Afterwards, the congregation went in a caravan for the ribbon-cutting at the new church home in the Vine City community.

The new church was in an existing church building, but it has completely been renovated inside.

Sunday's event attracted parishioners from other churches who wanted to come out and help celebrate the congregations new home.
