Atlanta's ‘BEST WORLD MUSIC ACT’ Salutes Men on Father's Day

ATLANTA -- You have seen them on NBC television network reality series “America’s Got Talent” and if you are a reality-show junkie, you remember them sharing their high-energy dance experience with singer/songwriter Kandi Burruss and Attorney Phaedra Parks in connection with their travels to South Africa on BRAVO cable network top-rated reality series “Real Housewives of Atlanta”.

Now, the 19-year Atlanta-based ensemble GIWAYEN MATA, is going to bring their ‘contagious’ high energy drum and dance to the Southwest Arts Center for Father's Day. Between educating audiences about African traditions and breaking barriers as an all-sistah ensemble in a male dominated percussion industry, its no wonder Creative Loafing Magazine named them "Best Local World Music Act" three times!

Seniors to Learn How to Guard Against Scams

ATLANTA -- Fulton County Seniors can take advantage of a workshop on how to protect themselves against scams. The next session of “Be Aware of the Tricks of the Trade: Guarding against Senior Scams” will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. The one-hour program will be held at the Dogwood Neighborhood Senior Center from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

The Dogwood Neighborhood Senior Center is located at 1953 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW in Atlanta, GA 30318. The session is sponsored by the Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Housing and Community Development.

All Fulton County meeting facilities meet ADA accessibility requirements. Citizens in need of reasonable accommodations and communication in an alternative format, please contact the Department of Housing and Human Services at (404) 613-7944. For relay-type services, dial 711.

School board announces May community meetings

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Each member of the Fulton County Board of Education sponsors a monthly meeting open to all members of the community.

The sessions provide an opportunity for direct contact with community members and give board members a chance to listen to local issues and concerns.

Board members have set the following meeting dates for May:

CAU holds their 19th Jazz Under the Stars event on Saturday May 5th

Its that time of year again, when the weather is nice and outdoor festivals are in full effect. One of my favorite and more calming outdoor events every year is Clark Atlanta's Jazz Under the Stars event. They always have a great set-up of wine and art and a number of jazz bands to entertain.

Rachelle Ferrell will headline the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Guild’s 19th annual Jazz Under the Stars Benefit Concert Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m. on the Harkness Hall Quadrangle on CAU’s campus, 223 James P. Brawley Drive, S.W. 30314.
Rachelle Ferrell is a recent arrival on the contemporary jazz scene, but her visibility on the pop/urban contemporary scene has boosted her audience's interest in her jazz recordings. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she started singing in the second grade at age 6. This no doubt contributed to the eventual development of her startling “six-and-change” octave range.

ATLANTA -- It's back! Starbucks' wildly popular Frappuccino Happy Hour event will return this Friday, May 4.

The coffeehouse chain will hold Frappuccino Happy Hour every day through Sunday, May 13, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. All sizes of the Frappuccino frozen drinks are half-price during Happy Hour.

Starbucks has brought back its two coconut drinks -- the Mocha Coconut Frappuccino and the Coconut Crème Frappuccino -- for summer. It also debuted two brand new flavors on Tuesday.

The Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino is "an indulgent blend of rich mocha sauce, vanilla syrup, Frappuccino chips, our signature Frappuccino Roast coffee and milk blended with ice and topped with delicious chocolatey whipped cream and chocolate cookie crumbles."
