ATLANTA -- Parents of participants in the Fulton County Leadership Academy for Girls (YLAG) will host their first Links for Leadership Golf Tournament on Monday, Oct. 7 beginning at 10 a.m.

The tournament will be held on the Wolf Creek Golf Course, which is located at 3000 Union Road in Atlanta.

The Links for Leadership Tournament is the first of what YLAG parents hope will become an annual event.

The purpose of the Fulton County YLAG is to develop young girls into resilient women who are able to confront the many challenges facing young women and prepare them to seize opportunities as they present themselves.

Initiated by Fulton County Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards, District 7, and supported by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, YLAG is one of the initiatives of the Call to Womanhood program. The program is sponsored by the Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Children and Youth.

Funds raised by Links for Leadership will be used to fund academy uniforms, field trips and other activities that expose participants to various cultures around the world. YLAG participants are required to host and participate in community service events and fundraisers.

Additionally, parents and Office of Children and Youth staff members will use proceeds from fundraisers for a scholarship fund that will be awarded to YLAG participants once they graduate high school.

Registration is currently underway until Monday, Sept. 23, with participants paying $95 for an individual entry and $340 for a foursome. Entries after Sept. 23 will require payment of a $15 late fee. Registration fees will include golf, range balls, use of a cart, and lunch. Contests during the tournament include the longest drive (males), longest drive (female), closest to the pin (male) and closest to the pin (female).
