Fulton and community partners to host celebration for children and families in need

ATLANTA -- Children and families in need and outstanding students will be the focus of a “Community Cares” Christmas Celebration on Friday, December 20, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  The event will feature distribution of toys, clothing, non-perishable items and recognition of students who have demonstrated academic excellence and perfect attendance.  Community partners supporting the event with entertainment, food, resources and giveaways include Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Children and Youth, V103 FM, Music Education Group (MEG), Treasure Chest, Inc., and other caring sponsors.

ATLANTA -- After a food-filled weekend of sampling, sipping and celebrating, Taste of Atlanta festival attendees are fully satisfied—and possibly even sporting an extra notch on their belt loop!

The epic 12th annual food festival featured over 100 of the city’s premier restaurants and fed more than 45,000 hungry Atlantans. With one-stop access to the city’s varied culinary landscape, an impressive amount of featured cooking classes and seminars and an incredible support of non-profit, community programs, Taste of Atlanta has once again cooked up a recipe for success.

Job fair for Atlanta teens this Saturday

ATLANTA -- The city of Atlanta is offering a job fair to Atlanta teenagers interested in summer jobs.

The event is only for teens who live within the city because it's sponsored by the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency (AWDA). The agency hopes to find jobs for 350 teenagers on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at AWDA offices at 818 Pollard Street in Atlanta.

It's open to juniors and seniors in high schools. Students who apply may bring the following: high school transcript, Georgia ID or driver's license, Social Security card, birth certificate and proof of residence. Register online for Selective Service (boys 18 years or older) prior to arrival.

The director of Atlanta Workforce Development says they also want to hear from businesses interested in employing teens.

Look out for runners on Ga. 400

ATLANTA -- Don't be alarmed if you see a whole bunch of people running down Georgia 400 this weekend.

The Pay the Last Toll road race will be held Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m., and gives athletes one last opportunity to see the infamous toll booths before they are demolished.

Runners will begin at the Glenridge Connector in Sandy Springs and run south to Phipps Plaza. When they reach the toll booths, they will throw in their final 50 cents. All proceeds will go to charity.

Northbound lanes of Ga. 400 will be closed for the race from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will also spend part of the weekend tearing down a MARTA pedestrian bridge on southbound Ga. 400.
