In 1986, the Junior League of Atlanta created the Atlanta Children’s Shelter to serve homeless families.

Atlanta, GA--  

For the third year in a row, the Konfidence Foundation is giving back by hosting a Toy Giveaway to ensure less fortunate children in Metro Atlanta enjoy the holidays.  Akon and his mother Ms. Kine Gueye Thiam, President of the Konfidence Foundation, will be on hand to personally distribute 2,000 holiday toys to Atlanta children in need. Each child will receive an age appropriate toy to take home.

Additionally, The Gidewon Foundation’s 6th Annual Christmas Holiday for Kids Affair will also be held on Monday. AG Entertainment’s owner, Alex Gidewon, and The Gidewon Foundation have once again teamed up with the Akon & the Konfidence Foundation to put together an afternoon of skating, games, music, food, and toy giveaways for over 600 less fortunate children living in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

To ensure that hungry families are able to enjoy a meal together this holiday season, Atlanta City Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell and the Atlanta City Council are a hosting a community food drive with a goal collecting 1,000 non-perishable food items by 3 p.m. Friday, December 17th.

WestLake High to Host Heisman Viewing Event in Honor of Cameron "Cam" Newton

Fulton County Government and the Westlake High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is proud to announce that it will host a Heisman Announcement Viewing Event in honor of Fulton’s own Heisman finalist, Cameron “Cam” Newton.  Cam Newton, a graduate of Fulton County Schools’ Westlake High and quarterback for the Auburn University football team, was recently selected the Most Valuable Player during Auburn’s win of the  Southeastern Conference Championship.

West End Community to Award Trees Atlanta for their Contributions

West End Community to Award Trees Atlanta for their Contributions

Atlanta, GA--  (submitted by Carl Nes of Historic West End)  

The West End community is the recent beneficiary of one the largest Tree Planting efforts ever undertaken in a neighborhood by Trees Atlanta, over 500 trees of all types and sizes. Volunteers from across Atlanta participated in a near 600 man volunteer effort over a span of several weeks and culminating in a final planting on December 4, 2010.

The appreciative community will present an Award to Trees Atlanta at the West End Neighborhood Holiday Party on December 11 at 8:15pm. Director Marcia Bansley will accept the award for Trees Atlanta.

Funding for the effort was provided by outgoing Fulton Co. Commissioner Nancy Boxill. Long time resident Brenda Arrington was the West End co-chair of the Planting Committee.
