SHOcase Home Show & Expo for prospective homebuyers in Fulton County

ATLANTA -- The SHOcase is a Special Homeownership Opportunity (SHO) event designed to introduce vendors, resources, and valuable information to qualified homebuyers interested in becoming homeowners. The SHOcase will primarily feature Fulton County Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) homes that are move-in ready and include new home fixtures, appliances, flooring, carpeting, and other desired amenities. These homes have been fully rehabbed as a result of funding received from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In addition, HUD-owned properties and newly constructed homes will be included in the event.

Spring Kick Off at English Avenue Urban Garden

ATLANTA - After a successful Fall Harvest of turnips, collard greens, cauliflower, spinach, mustard greens, kale, and artichokes at the English Avenue Urban Community Garden, we are excited to kick off the Spring with a Perennial Planting on Saturday, February 25th. This will get the outer borders of the Garden lookin' good before we start planting vegetables in the beginning of March.

Fulton County Residents Encouraged to Take Precautions During Winter Months When Using Space Heaters

Cold weather will soon be the primary forecast for local weather. According to local weather experts, the month of January is the coldest month in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County. Fulton County Cooperative Extension wants to encourage residents who use space heaters to keep their homes warm to pay close attention to safety tips when using the equipment.

Residents should know that heating an entire home using space heaters alone is a safety hazard. Most people are not aware war that space heaters should only be used as a back up for the main heating system of a home. However, according to the Department of Energy, the unsafe use of electric space heaters are the cause of more than 25,000 residential fires, 300 deaths, and almost 6,000 emergency room visits per year.
