Atlanta apartment building destroyed in fire | News
ATLANTA -- Five families were displaced after their apartment building was heavily damaged by fire Monday morning.
The blaze broke out at around 3:30 a.m. in an eight-unit building at the Eagles Nest Apartments in the 2900 block of Landrum Drive.
Four units were impacted by the fire, which began on the first floor and then crawled up a wall and into the building's attic. Flames on the top floor burned away the roof.
Residents said they ran from unit to unit, knocking on doors and waking up neighbors. Everyone managed to safely escape.
Atlanta Fire crews knocked down the fire at around 4:15 a.m.
The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the nine adults and three children affected by the fire.
