ATLANTA -- Parents are in the Back to School swing as class start dates for local students are just around the corner.
Organizations throughout Atlanta recognize that many children may lack school supplies and resources to get them before hitting the classroom. To help, several organizations are accepting donations of school supplies and giving them to kids in need.
The United Methodist Children's Home provides school supplies to both children involved in their programs and Atlanta area children in need. If you are in need of school supplies in the Atlanta area contact Noelle Owen. To donate school supplies you may drop them off at the UMCH office in Decatur, Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Noelle Owen: nowen@umchildrenshome.org

Visit the Agape Community Center on Friday, August 2 to receive a backpack with school supplies during the Great Backpack Giveaway. If you want to donate supplies, drop them off at the Agape Community Center from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. until Wednesday, July 31. Elizabeth Baptist Church is accepting school supplies donations at the main office on Monday - Thursday from 9 am - 7 pm. They need pencils, pens, paper, packpacks and crayons.

CHRIS Kids is always accepting school supplies at their office Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. They work mostly with high schoolers so they need items such as flash drives, calculators, clear or mesh backpacks, art supplies and other craft supplies. Supplies go to youth in their organizations programs.

Back-2-School Bash - The Powder Springs Community Task-Force is hosting an event on Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center. To donate supplies drop them off at the Ron Anderson Recreation Center from noon - 6 p.m.

2nd Annual Back to School Bash Exchange - Recreation Center is hosting a back to school event giving school supplies to kids in need. Visit the recreation center on Saturday, August 10 from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. Register by August 2. Drop off any donations at the Recreation Center.

Back to School Supply Drive - Saturday, August 3, BFAM, Inc. and the Youth Against Violence (YAV) will host their first annual "Back to School Supply Drive" at the Douglasville Police Station's Community Building located at 2083 Fairburn Road from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m. All items given will benefit elementary and middle schools throughout Douglas County.
