MLB Round the Mound program makes a stop in SW Atlanta to promote baseball to the inner city

SW Atlanta --  Orlando Hudson, 2nd baseman for the San Diego Padres is committed to supporting and recruiting more Black Americans to the sport of baseball.  There has been a dramatic decrease in the amount of Black American players in the Major Leagues since the late 60's and the days after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.

Hudson believes that baseball is the best and hardest sport in the world and that the youth just do not get a chance to see as much of it as they do with football and basketball.

Three years ago he started the Round the Mound program which is a 5 city tour which stops at various inner city baseball parks to show his appreciation and support of the players and the coaches that are keeping baseball relevant .  He also hopes to reach kids that may not be playing baseball and parents who may not think of baseball as a preferred sport, and to show them how much funand the upsides of playing ball.
